Shades EQ is the only liquid acidic formula, which means:
- It’s the healthier way to tone – using acidic demi permanent color after lightening is best
- There’s no lift- so no need to worry about banding or harsh regrowth

I’m a hair colorist a and a hair stylist for 30 years and redken shades eq is my favorite product. Not only for refreshing the color, Color correction, blending grays. I would die if redken discontinue Redken shades eq or retire.

I've been bleaching the hair of myself and others from a young age. Now that I am licensed and can buy these incredible products, my life has changed. I've used a million toners, and Shades EQ is hands-down the best. This is what i learned with in school, so I always fought it but nothing else compares. First, there is no lift. You can basically tone on dry hair to get a more intense result, without worry of warming up any virgin roots. Second, it is so ridiculously moisturizing that it's more of a shine treatment than a color. Last but not least, these are the coolest and most violet-based toners I have ever used...and isn't that really what's important? Seven years a Shades EQ fan, and going strong.

This stuff is undefeated! You cant go wrong with it if you know what youre doing! If I could request one thing it would be that the popular shades - 9V, 9P, 8GI, 7N, 6N, etc. be made in larger bottles! I run through those shades (and a few others) like nobody's business! The amount of little pink bottles I throw away every week is crazy!
I love the possibilities and potential that this product gives stylists. Using SEQ has made me more confident in my work and makes me more willing to take chances and amp up my client's end results.

I do hair and I tone almost everyone with Shades Eq gloss. There’s so many tones to choose from I feel like you can really customize your clients toner to fit their need. It tones quickly and evenly, and doesn’t shift the natural base which I love. It makes the hair so soft and shiney! I also love the smell of Shades! My mom does hair also and growing up in the salon they always used Redken color and products and it’s sort of a nostalgic smell to me and I’m so glad Shades are still around and so popular!

37 years and still my number one for so many reasons. Not just a gloss, toner, blender, it truly is everything. The hair colorist has absolutely everything needed at their fingertips to create the PERFECT finishing color. What’s fun is that every time I use SEQ I always feel a little bit like a mad scientist! I know so many of you can relate. It’s this artistic, spontaneous energy that elevates my finishing color to unique one of a kind perfection, something every guest appreciates!

So this is a great color to use when doing color correction. Just make sure though that when you use it on blonde to cancel out any gold, you keep a close eye on your hair because if you don't, you will result with ashy tones and then have to tone it again or just wait a week or so for it to rinse. When I say a week or so for it to rinse, I mean the ashy tone. These are demi permanent products so eventually they will rinse out but it shouldn't rinse out the color correction.

This is my all time favorite hair color. It leaves my hair feeling still really soft and not dried out. Normally when i used to us that WalMart box stuff it would leave my hair really nasty feeling after i showered. Not this stuff. Cherry Cola is a beautiful color and to give even a little more of a red pop i mix 1oz cherry cola, .50oz marlot, and then .50oz of rocket fire. These are also redken shades colors. Beautiful!

Initially loved this colour! It gave me the the exact colour I was hoping for. It was a silver/grey/icy blonde. Unfortunately, it does fade very quickly. I was back to white/yellowish blonde within a couple washes. I would do this again but keep in mind you'll have to visit the salon regularly if you want to keep this colour. Maybe it would last longer with purple shampoo but I have yet to find a good one.

Shades EQ is one of my favorite demi color line out there. After processing it makes you hair so shiny. Healthy. And vibrant looking. I do not use demi anymore however Onyx is my favorite blue black color for my hair ever! It looks so beautiful with that slight blue tint especially when in the sunlight. It is demo however since it is black it tends to stick around longer.

Let's start with "This is a great product!" BUT from a Salon Managers point of view for inventory and stocking reasons... is it possible to move the numbers (9N) to the top of the label??? I see stylists struggling all the time to figure out a way to be able to read the labels better. If the bottles were labelled on top, a riser could be used for storage and display.

I love using Redken Shades eq color! There are limitless formulas you can use by mixing colors. A hidden gem is 09B Sterling. It works so well removing orangey tones in the hair. I used this along with 09V and a splash of 07V and the results are in my pic. Shades eq is my go to when coloring and toning. Redken Shades EQ Equalizing Conditioning Color Gloss

As a hairstylist with a mostly blonde clientele, toning is extremely important to me. The Shades EQ line is very extensive and easy to use because the colors are true to the level and tone they say they will be. They are very easy to use, easy to mix to create the perfect tone, and easy to apply. I highly recommend this product.

I don't trust my platinum blonde with anything else!! My clients appreciate me going the extra mile after a highlight with shades toners. They're fast acting, leaving a glossy, shiny finish, and conditioning too! For the last 12 years I've switched some of my color products, but shades will always remain a staple in my tools!!

As a professional hairstylist who has heard the debate over whether to tone with Shades on wet/damp/dry hair, this debate could be easily settled if Redken would specify in their "how to use" instructions whether to apply shades on wet, damp, or dry hair. It's a pretty important detail that WILL have an impact on the outcome.

I LOVE THESE AS TONERS!!! They're also really nice to freshen up faded color too. No damage at all and you always get the expected results if you know what you're doing! For blondes, I do recommend keeping an eye on them the entire time because sometimes you have to run and rinse it out before the full twenty minutes! Lol

Obsessed with these glazes. I use 7nw on clients looking for that yummy caramel! The color is amazing! It’s my go to color for brunettes. The only thing with these compared to goldwell colorance is that they can be a little drying. I would totally still use redken shades. Some shades are a lot richer than the goldwell

I always use this color for my low lights and toning. It’s natural but not too warm and works well for majority of completions. Hair always comes out as expected and lasted longer than most Demi permanents. I love it! I will never use another brand! Redken Shades EQ Equalizing Conditioning Color Gloss For the win!!

Amazing ! Amazing ! Amazing ! By far the best toner I've used . Just to make it clear for those who don't know this will not lift it will only deposit. This toner kicked all the brassy out to the curb ! and left a beautiful blonde . Also shades Eq leaves the hair with a nice gloss shining finish . Amazing product

It’s a great toner. Works great, BUT you have to be aware of how long you keep it on. I learned the hard way the first time I used it. My hair turned greyish - brown. I used the lemon juice & a conditioner mask to get rid of that color. The second time I tried this toner , it came out so amazing , I was shook!

Redken shades eq is my favorite Demi line for adding shine and dimension to my guests hair. I use this product several times a week on more than half of my guests. I work in a redken salon and everyone can benefit from a glossing service. Love these products but they are for professional use only.

I absolutely love shades! They are my go-to toners & i love them as a demi permanent for someone that just wants a gloss overtop their hair! I think That compared to other toners/glosses these are by far my favorite! I love the color payoff. Very satisfied! Would recommend to anyone.

Redken shades eq gloss is the best toner out there! So many shades to choose from, i’ve tried wella toners but it seems like they are just for light hair. Shades eq has many options and can be used on all different hair colors. It gives the hair shine and gets rid of orange tones.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I love using shades for toning my balayage and highlight clients. It is great for when I need a slightly translucent dimensional blond. The combinations I am able to create give each service a bespoke result that is consistent and beautiful. It also performs well in darker tones.

On of my very favorite toner colors from Redken. It's easy to use. I normally mix in a bottle with half processing solution, and have clear gloss. I think it's very cost efficient, especially when you know it's going to get the job done. I will always recommend this product.

I use the lighter shades as toners. I love the array of colors, even a green for getting out those red tones. Some toners just sit there and make no noticable changes after 20 minutes. Shades EQ does the job in less time and leaves the hair in beautiful condition.

I really like 09p, it has violet and blue in it to combat brass and unwanted warmth without making it super ashy. I believe Redken Shades is one of the better glosses/ toners on the market. I am satisfied with the product and love the added shine it gives hair.

The shades EQ glasses are my absolute favorite and they are in acidic be so they bring the pH level down after highlighting in really leave the hair is super conditioned and glacis after I especially love seven NB because it’s a super nice medium caramel blonde

I used to have a balayage, and as you may know, bleached hair is extremely delicate and needs extra help. And this is just what shades EQ means, an extra help for your colored or bleach hair, it brings your hair color back to life, by filling your hair strands.

I am a huge fan of redkin! I use these to make my toners or to mix them. I even use these to liven up the hair color you may already have without using anything harsh since it is just depositing the color. I buy tons of this product! It has yet to let me down.

The best toner of all toners! These are very true to swatch. It leaves your hair so smooth and shiny. The smell of the product isn't awful or super strong compared to other hair colors. It's very gentle on the scalp which is great for those with sensitive skin

I lobe shades eq for toning my highlights. They don’t pull too red and have everything looking completely natural. I only color my hair with red Jen and go to a salon that uses redeem because I like the line so much. Color lasts for six months if I push it.

The redken shades eq line is my favorite Demi permanent hair color. It lasts about 20 washes, and the colors are super vibrant. I put this on my hair mixed with a 03V shade and I got great color! This is amazing if you want to experiment without commitment.

I ordered mahogany and brownstone. Both colors should have been dark. I knew right away when i was mixing the color with the processor that this wasn't right. Colors were light yellow. Both colors came from Hair Expo. I have never had trouble until now....

product works great as a Toner. I keep this color in stock at my salon and use it on a weekly basis. It is an effective color just have to carefully watch to make sure that it doesn't over process. I would definitely recommend this to other stylists!

The absolute best for those icy blondes. I use this on almost all of my blonde clients. I purchase this at salon centric. It’s 100% effective on level 9 blondes with a yellow tone. The price is great, & makes it easy to keep in stock.

It fried my hair gave me a color chemical burn. My hair has never gotten damaged from using shades eq this was my 1st time using shades eq plus bonder . My hair strand elasticity strength is weak and breaks off and coils back crunchy , it feels like gum
I used it as directed and I don’t have any medications and it felt horrible while I rinsed it with just water before I used my vegan shampoo
It’s been a horrible experience, I’ve been using non permanent hair color for a couple years now to regrow natural healthy hair. And now my entire hair strand is damaged. I contacted redken directly and the rep was rude and kept talking about herself and how she’s a chemist and she burns her hair off and blah blah blah. Very rude I’m literally in shock .
No, I do not recommend this product.

My stylist uses this on my hair when I get my balayage lightening. Rather than paying 80.00 for a toner application only between full services, I decided to try it at home. Mixed it exactly as was described using 2 bonder colors (9V and 10GRo), 000 crystal clear, and the processing solution. Applied to clean, dry hair and left it on for 20 minutes. May hair looks like I just left the salon. It is shiny, soft and the color is exactly what I was looking for. I realize doing a home hair color job is not always recommended and can be done incorrectly, but I followed all the directions and it came out perfect.

I used the product a week ago. It made my hair extremely, dry, fizzy and stiff -- more like straw than hair. I to correct the situation by using deep conditioner, mask, your 25 Benefits One United in an attempt to reverse the damage/condition -- no improvement. I couldn't be more upset, worried, unhappy and at loss as to how to restore my hair to its previous state..

I used the shades eq gloss and the gel product with it and my hair is HORRIBLE now. The color is cute but my gorgeous soft long hair is freaking straw now. I can’t even wear it down it’s so staticky. Redken ruined my hair
