BAD- Not for straight to wavy hair

I bought this piece of garbage spray after being told by a hair stylist in Sudbury, Ontario at CHATTERS in the New Sudbury Mall that this would be a good affordable protectant spray for my hair - BOY DID SHE EVER LIE. This spray makes my hair stick, TANGLE and KNOT. Rinsing it out is impossible. WOULD GIVE 0 STARS IF I COULD AND WILL NEVER BUY REDKEN AGAIN. Will be going STRAIGHT INTO THE TRASH.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Smells fantastic!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I was selected by BzzAgent and Redken to receive a free sample of the Redken Low Hold thermal spray in exchange for my honest opinion. I have thin and fine hair and it is super important for me to use a thermal heat protectant spray to keep my hair from becoming damaged from using a flat iron daily on my hair. This heat protectant spray protects your hair up to 450 degrees and gives your hair a little added styling aid by offering a low hold agent in the formula. I did not give this five stars because the spray nozzle kept getting clogged easily. Although it was easy to unclog, it was frustrating to have to continue to do so while using it. The product smells amazing and it sprays a very light mist which is amazing for people with thin hair. The product worked great to protect my hair and my hair looked very healthy and natural when using the spray. I love that the formula was so light on my hair and did not weigh it down. Overall, this was a great product and I would definitely buy and use this again.

Yes, I recommend this product.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I love this Redken protection. I wash my hair at n night to save time and morning. I apply the heat protectant before I blow dry or blow dry my hair and it's just so soft and it tamed the flyaways and gives great protection for heat. I wake up the next morning and don't have to do anything to my hair. Great protection with our being greasy or sticky like others product I have tried

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Sooo I love the way it smells, nothing like hairspray. So that's always a plus. I live in the south so we have humidity and I can say this hairspray did calm the frizz a lot. Also I loved that I can spray my hair and style it down and it actually stays styled. I recommend this hair spray to anyone wanting help with keeping your style without having your hair stiff

Yes, I recommend this product.

Not good

This NOT a replacement for Spray starch. It’s NOT EVEN CLOSE to their Spray Starch. Iron shape says it’s light hold...so maybe if you have easy to style hair that easily holds already or frizz free hair...but Spray Starch was extreme hold. My frizzy hair doesn’t respond well to this, it’s better than using no product, and it look ok right after styling, but soon after my hair does not look very good. THE HOLD DOESN'T LAST. With Spray Starch, my curls or waves would last FOR DAYS, with no frizz. Even in humidity. With this it barely lasts until I get out of the bathroom door. Plus it doesn’t smell nearly as good as Spray Starch. So if you are looking for a Spray Starch replacement look elsewhere.

No, I do not recommend this product.

BadFormula

I have been using Redken products for years and was so happy I finally found a line of products that work well for my hair and keeps it healthy. At some point over the Summer 2017, Redken changed the formula for the Iron Shape 11, and I am SO DISAPPOINTED! Not only is the fragrance too strong and floral (a personal dislike), but the feel of the product has totally changed. It is now a white, milky substance, where the old formula was clear and glossy. Once on my dry hair (before I straighten it), the product gets very heavy and almost greasy. I now have to find a completely different line of products to use on my hair, all because this once perfect thermal protecting spray has changed for the worse.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Does What It Says, A Nice Shiny Light Hold

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I like this spray because it can be used in wet or dry hair. It gives a lovely shine and light hold when used before blow drying. When you use it on dry hair before curling, your hair comes out very shiny and with way less frizz. It's not hard and crusty like a hard hold hair spray. The only thing is that if you over use it and spray a ton on your hair, it may get kind of a gross greasy/dirty feel to it. I found that I like it best if I spray it in my hand, rub my hands together and disperse it in my hair that way. I end up using way less product that way and don't over use it.

Yes, I recommend this product.

I have fine, thin color-treated hair and have been using IronShape 11 for a little over six months. Up until recently it was GREAT for my hair. In addition to heat protection, it gave my hair some volume/control without weighing it down. When I went to re-purchase a few weeks ago, I found that they had reformulated and the new version is TERRIBLE for my hair type. It weighs it down and almost makes it feel dirty. I was able to return it to the store and find a few bottles of the old stuff, but as soon as I run out, I'll be looking for a new product. (NOTE: if you're looking for the old formula, it had a MUCH SHORTER ingredient list and was $2 cheaper. There must be a few bottles still out there somewhere!)

No, I do not recommend this product.

Redken, really? MUST you discontinue every good product and then suggest another one for us to spend money on that is in no way similar or even effective? Spray Starch was my mainstay and there is and was nothing like it on the market. So of course it's no longer available. Why do something so alienating to your customers? I'm so frustrated by this (and other products that you've disappeared without a trace) I've decided never to buy another Redken product. If by chance I did, and if like it and it works, you'll just proceed to discontinue it. Life is too short.

Good product

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I liked the Redken low hold thermal spray. My first impression of the product was that it smelled amazing. I could immediately tell that after spraying this on my hair that my hair looked healthier and even looked and felt fuller. It also reduced frizz. It only took about two or three good pumps of the product to be used each time. If I over sprayed I didn't really like how my hair felt it felt a little sticky but I just learned quickly that it did not take much product. Overall I loved it and I would buy this again and recommend to a friend.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Bye Bye Redken

Bye Bye Redken I purchased this product after finding my 07 Iron Silk was discontinued. 07 was the only thing I have ever found to tame my frizzies in the perpetual humidity of central Florida. Redken people, this is not a replacement as your website suggests but rather a disappointment. And now I will have to replace you. Please note while your product may be affordable compared to other salon brands, it is a poor value for my hard earned money when I throw it out after one use. If I could, I would give the product no stars.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Poor

I have used this product for years and now my teen daughter uses it when she curls her hair. The original formula was light, with enough hold to keep our curls for HOURS. So I am really disappointed that they changed the formula. The new formula seems to have a lot of oils/lotions in it. It weighs down our long hair and the curls are almost gone within an hour or so. We have oily type hair to start with - we don't want to add more to it. I am SO SAD to have to look for something else - I am a diehard Redken fan. I am hoping that they will follow in the footsteps of Coke and realize that: If it ain't broke, don't fix it!! Redken -- PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE bring back the old formula and make sure you publicize the heck out of it so we know it is safe to come back!

No, I do not recommend this product.

Not for me

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I tried this several times before I decided to leave my review. Each time me hair feels really sticky and not smooth at all. It's hard to get a comb through throughout the day when I need to comb it as it just all clumps back together. I can't even run my fingers through my hair during the day anymore. And the bottle spray nozzle only shoots out a tiny bit at a time. It could be just a broken nozzle or perhaps that's how it was suppose to be, not sure. I didn't care for it and don't be using it anymore.

No, I do not recommend this product.

PERFECTION

Reading some of the reviews made me skeptical to purchase. BUT, I’m so glad I decided to try it out for myself; can I tell you this stuff is PERFECTION in a bottle. For years I could never get that “just from the Salon” hairdo. But my stylist turned me on to their line of shampoo and conditioner (this is Redken review so i am intentionally not mentioning the name of those products) and Redken’s Thermal Shape 11 for blow drying, curling, flat ironing. I’m in love with it and it does exactly what it says it does. My hair feels and looks great and the shine is awesome too! For those who say the product is sticky and tacky I just wonder if maybe you used too much. I used to be heavy handed with products, but have learned a little goes a long way. Thank you Redken for a great product!

Yes, I recommend this product.

This product is a major disappointment. I cannot believe they discontinued Spray Starch (amazing product! loved it!) and replaced it with this. This product is worthless. I have tried it several times over the past 4 weeks and not once has it produced results. It's like I didn't add anything to hair at all. Spray Starch was perfect. It offered heat protection, while adding some volume and made straightening or curling easy. This product offers ZERO hold. I am thoroughly disappointed.

No, I do not recommend this product.

The older version of Redkin Iron Shape 11 was amazing (light, defrizzed, protected hair, left it shiny); however, now it is heavy on the hair (the liquid is creamier, oily). My daughter and I both used the old version. We both bought this one thinking they just updated the packaging, but we were wrong. We both returned out bottles we purchased online. We have not found anything comparable to the original. Please reconsider going back to the original clear, light-weight product!

Obsessed with this stuff!! It is the only product I know of (I’m sure there are others that I don’t) that is both a heat protectant AND holds my curl. I spray it on right before I curl, so it protects my hair from the iron, and then it also acts as a hairspray so I don’t need to spray again! I usually try to find off brands that do the same thing as products I love, but really nothing can compete with this stuff. Definitely in my top 5 all time favorite products (maybe even top 3?)

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have been using this product for about the last 7-10 days. I have tried spraying on wet hair and then blow drying and also on dry hair with hot tools. Unfortunately, the result for me has been the same. It makes my hair feel sticky and not smooth. I am not able to even run my fingers through my hair. I have tried to use more or use less and it just isn't working for me. I've been using iron shape for years. The new bottle I bought looks pretty much the same on the outside, but the formula is totally different. It used to be clear; now it's milky. It's heavy on my hair and makes me want to shave my head. I can't use conditioners because my hair is so fine. This makes my hair feel almost filmy and greasy. Please, please, please bring back the old formula. Why fix what isn't broken? Would give zero stars if possible.

Redken Iron Shape 11, as a replacement for Redken Spray Starch 15, is incredibly disappointing. It is not much better than Redken Hot Sets 22. Iron Shape 11 and Hot Sets 22 both leave my hair lackluster, flat, and frizzy with no volume and the horrible smell of singed hair after styling with a Curling Iron or Flat Iron. I never tried this product before until it was suggested by my hairdresser as the best heat protection spray as I straighten my hair every 3rd day. I had great expectations, but it is very heavy and super sticky on the hair. It feels like I haven't washed them and also there no shine after straightening. I won't be buying again. I regret I didn't check reviews before as none of them are good. I just hope it really protects the hair.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I am obsessed with this. I have rather thick unruly hair and have been looking for a product for styling for some time. This allows me to style and have that style STAY. It isn't crunchy when it dries and provides just enough hold that I know my hair will hold the desired shape. The only thing I would tell others is if you are looking for incredibly silky soft hair this does provide a bit of texture (what makes it hold).

Yes, I recommend this product.

Sad

I bought this a month or two ago and had been using this product for a while. I noticed they changed the packaging from a pink to the black bottle you see now but thought nothing of it. There seems to be a huge difference between the old and new product! The older version in the pink bottle left my hair smooth with a pleasant fragrance and healthy shine. This new stuff in the black bottle leaves my hair crunchy, dull, warped, and hard to brush through. It also seems to have no heat protectant whatsoever because my hair smells burnt afterwards. Was the formula changed? I know my flat iron is working properly because I used an older bottle in comparison and my hair was just fine. Maybe it's a faulty bottle, or maybe the formula did change. This used to be the best thermal spray ever and I don't want to change brands:( Please bring back the old formula if that was the case!

No, I do not recommend this product.

I bought this at ulta bc I ran out of my chi, I like this product because I feel like it really does save your hair from any type of heat and I’ve had it for a year and just now running out so it has a good amount, the only thing I would say I didn’t like would be that when I do spray it on my hair it feels rough and makes my hair feel weird at first but after I straighten it or curl it it looks & feels fine!

Iron sprays make me EXTREMELY hesitant. My hair is so baby fine and gets hard and crispy so easily. This spray does not do that!! It is amazing. Spray this stuff on comb through and flat iron and no sign of hard or sticky hair! It also makes my hair soft and makes styling it a breeze. I will not buy any other flat iron spray other than this one ever again. Honestly, best out of all the ones I've tried yet.

UGH!!!

I absolutely HATE the new formula!!!!! Will not be buying again. I've been using Iron Shape for about 4 years now and it was one of my favorite products that is until they changed it! Its thick now, sprays horribly becuse it so thick, comes out in clumps and the smell is HORRIBLE. I do not like ANYTHING about this new formula. DID you not test this at all???? Awful. JUst awful. Bring the old stuff back!!!

No, I do not recommend this product.

We appreciate the feedback from our consumers and will make those in charge of this product group aware of your comments. We hope you are able to find another one of our products to meet your needs. May we suggest Hot Sets 22. It has similar properties and also aids in frizz protection

Great product - don't let them fool you

Stop using review sections to complain about discontinued products. Iron Shape is a wonderful product that I use when I flat iron my hair. It gives my hair great shine and softness, and it also makes a big difference in flyaways. I don't understand why people are upset that it has no hold - it's a FINISHING SPRAY. If you want hold, use Hot Sets (22). Do your homework before purchasing products.

Not Good

I have been using this product for years as a replacement to spray starch (agree, not as good, but what was available). The product worked fine for the most part. In the past month or so, I noticed that the smell of the product changed and it doesn't react in my hair the same. Coincidentally, I started getting small bumps on my cheeks around the same time. I didn't connect the 2 until I went on vacation for a week. My travel bottle was the old formula of Iron Shape 11. The bumps started going away. When I came home, I started using the other bottle, and the bumps came back. Went away for a weekend just last week, bumps started going away with the travel bottle. The bumps are an allergic reaction to something in this new formula. Not happy. I have stopped using the product completely, but haven't found a replacement yet. Will be discussing with my hairdresser this weekend. Sigh.

Works best for straightening hair

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I used this before both straightening and curling my hair. First off, it does have a nice smell. I would apply it to my damp hair, then dry my hair. I found that it caused my curls to not last as long as just a regular curling iron and using hairspray after. However, when straightening my hair, it was super smooth and lasted days. I will definitely add this to my straightening hair routine.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Doesn't Make My Hair Sticky

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have tried a lot of hair products over the years. My hair is super fine/thin and mostly straight. I either straighten it or curl it each day. I like that this protects my hair in both situation and helps reduce frizz. It is a very light hold, it wont hold curls all day...but it will keep them very lose. The smell is light and floral and isn't too strong. I would repurchase.

Yes, I recommend this product.

This Thermal Spray is AMAZING

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have long to my tailbone hair, and my end are always drying out and frizzing with heat. This spray helped keep the moisture and shine on my dull ends after using heat. Left my hair smooth and shiny, other protectors never leave this kind of shine. Really enjoyed this product, a little goes a long way. Smells incredible! I spray it just for the scent almost daily.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Damaged my hair

It fried my hair gave me a color chemical burn. My hair has never gotten damaged from using shades eq this was my 1st time using shades eq plus bonder . My hair strand elasticity strength is weak and breaks off and coils back crunchy , it feels like gum I used it as directed and I don’t have any medications and it felt horrible while I rinsed it with just water before I used my vegan shampoo It’s been a horrible experience, I’ve been using non permanent hair color for a couple years now to regrow natural healthy hair. And now my entire hair strand is damaged. I contacted redken directly and the rep was rude and kept talking about herself and how she’s a chemist and she burns her hair off and blah blah blah. Very rude I’m literally in shock .

If you use it correctly, it is magical

My stylist uses this on my hair when I get my balayage lightening. Rather than paying 80.00 for a toner application only between full services, I decided to try it at home. Mixed it exactly as was described using 2 bonder colors (9V and 10GRo), 000 crystal clear, and the processing solution. Applied to clean, dry hair and left it on for 20 minutes. May hair looks like I just left the salon. It is shiny, soft and the color is exactly what I was looking for. I realize doing a home hair color job is not always recommended and can be done incorrectly, but I followed all the directions and it came out perfect.

Yes, I recommend this product.

DREADFUL PRODUCT!!

I used the product a week ago. It made my hair extremely, dry, fizzy and stiff -- more like straw than hair. I to correct the situation by using deep conditioner, mask, your 25 Benefits One United in an attempt to reverse the damage/condition -- no improvement. I couldn't be more upset, worried, unhappy and at loss as to how to restore my hair to its previous state..

No, I do not recommend this product.
